Documentary Film Production

They brought a deeply relational approach to their filmmaking, taking plenty of time to get to know the interviewees, understand their goals, and ensure their comfort with the process.

DESCRIPTION

Filmmaking for 3 Crows Productions began in 2010 as an unpaid passion-filled hobby following the lives of two Residential School Survivors, Cyril Pierre and Joseph Ginger. Their first documentary about the healing journey of the two Elders is titled “Our Story”. At the time, they had very basic filmmaking tools, low quality sound equipment and poor lighting, if any. Over 20 documentaries later the team keeps adding new equipment but what remains constant is the power of the story. A good story has the power to make change.

Audio Design

3 Crows Productions is a small, highly ambitious team 100% Indigenous owned and operated. Their production studio is located in Vancouver, BC. and they travel anywhere clients require. Whether you are looking for an Indigenous perspective or to decolonize your business practices by investing in Indigenous filmmakers, 3 Crows Productions can create a documentary film that reflects your unique message.

Set Design

Crafting a good story requires unique and authentic content. All soundtracks are produced in-house or in collaboration with local artists raising their unique voices. The personal connection made with interviewees is reflected on camera. Their decolonized, trauma-informed, non-extractive approach to documentary filmmaking and relationship building has helped clients feel safe and heard. These filmmakers seek out stories that educate and spark social change.

DESCRIPTION

Documentaries can be powerful storytelling tools that share important messages. In a media driven world, knowing how to create impactful documentary films can be an asset. 3 Crows Productions offers interactive workshops for beginners and intermediates who are looking to learn documentary filmmaking techniques.

Artist Talks
Live Action

Incorporating Indigenous perspectives at every stage of development is important. Each participant will learn how to be mindful of traditional protocols while capturing intimate or culturally sensitive moments on camera. Workshops range from a one hour artist talk to multi-day sessions creating a short documentary from start to finish.

The purpose of these workshops is to empower participants with the tools to be impactful storytellers through documentary filmmaking. The goal is to give future filmmakers control of how their stories and communities are represented in a way that is non-extractive.

Rates are individually customized per workshop based on length and scope. Please contact for more details.
